It’s tough being the new kid.  Starting from the bottom, like Drake sings.

In the vast cyber sea that we call the Internet, it can seem overwhelming to carve a niche for yourself or your brand online.

I’m not going to lie, it takes hard work, and I am still living that reality now.

Not only is it overwhelming to start a blog or business, but it can seem near impossible to not compare your day one to another person’s year four.

But I’m here to tell you not to quit before you’ve even started.   Today, I’m going to talk about how you can use Pinterest to grow your brand or business and not only gain an audience but also foster authority within your niche.

Here are three ways you can start to build authority and grow your brand or business with Pinterest!

  1. Tell your story.  We all have a tale to tell which is unique to us.  Despite appearances in the political world at the moment, transparency has never been a more efficient way to engage people.  Sharing your story (struggles and all) is a fantastic way to establish credibility while also creating a personal connection with your Pinterest audience. If you’re a new brand or business, you can use Pinterest to increase your brand authority and position yourself as an authority by creating educational boards filled with information that will support your product or service as well as showcase your brand’s authority. An example of a brand that created promotional and educational content to promote their products is Hungry Girl and her board “HG Survival Guides,” which provides information on how to keep your diet in check while eating on the go.

TIP:  Repinning stories which are relevant to your brand will also add value to your audience as well as foster trust that will help convert well for you in the form of traffic/sales/etc.

  2. Inspire your audience.  What kinds of images do you like to share?  Captivating? Colorful?  Using great pictures and graphics that will inspire your brand’s visual story and you’ll be on your way to success!  When you use Pinterest as part of your brand’s marketing strategy, you are partnering up with the Pinterest community to make life better for your audience through Pinning the content your followers crave.

    Daily Burn
is an excellent example of a fitness brand that creates and collaborates content to inspire their audience by creating boards for fitness apparel, nutritious recipes, and tech for people who like to keep fit and healthy.

  3. Grow your inbound traffic and email list.  As I mentioned in my last post, Pinterest in not a social media app; it is a search engine.  As Pinterest is a search engine, it has been proven to drive more traffic to your website than social media apps (except Facebook.)Using great images is a big part of Pinterest success, but so is the information you share on your Pins.  The more information you share, the more useful the Pin will be to your audience and the more useful it is to your audience the more likely they are to share it with others.  Pin images don’t have to be professional to be helpful to others.

Many fitness and food pins can become top performers because of the information the graphic has to offer other users.  The more Pins shares, the more likely others are to share your information and click on through to your website to learn more about your brand. For example, this Rich Pin from Divas Run For Bling, it uses simple lines and colors but offers fantastic content for anyone looking to get design a great workout in no time.  It received many repins and also appears on the first-page search for HIIT workouts.

By paying attention to your Pinterest Analytics metrics, you can find out what content you are sharing is performing the best.  Knowing what works will enable you to continue to share more of what your audience is looking for, display your authority, and escalate your brand’s organic growth.
